Gal*Gun Returns is a return to form for the series and a shining example of refined on-rail shooter, arcade action, albeit with a bit of lewdness thrown into the mix.
The goofy Gal Gun series from Inti Creates is back in a brand new remake of the original so get ready to shoot some gals yet again.
Gal*Gun Returns goes back to its roots and is simpler than what fans of the franchise are used to but remains an enjoyable fanservice filled rail shooter.
Maybe you shouldn’t play it. However, if you can put yourself in an academic, emotionless state of mind, there really is some fun to be had, arguably moreso than in Gal*Gun 2. But you do have to wade through some…questionable…content.
Gal*Gun Returns is a pretty decent remaster of a so-so game barring a few issues. I don’t think anybody is going to walk away from it arguing it’s the best in the series, but it’s worthwhile for fans who’ve wanted to see where this franchise got its start. And if you’re anything like me, it’ll make you appreciate what’s come after it all the more.

There are other little subtle ways that the game continues to undermine what Gal*Gun is supposedly famous for. There are four “main” girls that you can woo, and each of them has a different narrative, within which there are special event variations on the base railgun action. One of these girls invites you to the school’s art room to help her with a project. There you discover that she wants you to strip naked to pose for her, and she then starts demanding that you adopt some incredibly demeaning poses.
