Guild of Dungeoneering Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Guild of Dungeoneering is a fun roguelike that adds guild management, card battles, and other interesting mechanics into one package to create an awesome game.
We who are about to die salute you.
Guild of Dungeoneering is a simple but fun dungeon-crawling and card-battling game that gradually grew on me the more I played. It manages to maintain interest with randomized dungeons that usually work out well, but could really benefit from some balance tweaks and a way to put more fully developed decks to the test.
Guild of Dungeoneering places you in the position of a guild manager in a hand-drawn world – it’s up to you to woo new recruits, build up a massive base of operations filled with adventurers and buffs, and use your powerful team (one at a time) to head out into myriad quest-based dungeon delves.
This review has been brought to you on the backs of poorly recalled, largely interchangeable murder-hoboes. Unfortunately, it could not be shared around in graph paper doodle format with the accompaniment of an insulting madrigal.
The music in the game is perfectly suited to each moment it plays. The Guild has a quiet and relaxing tone, while battles have a heavier and more epic feeling to it. The humor even shows in this department, as not only does every class have a funny little jingle describing their skills, but every explorer’s death is followed by a small but wonderfully morbid musical obituary that makes you feel somewhat bad about sending your unit to its death. Even your victories have a small ballad containing a sharp jab at your skills.
