Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Guilty Gear Xrd - Revelator is a fast paced, demanding, and visual pleasing game that no fighting game fan or rock fan should miss.
Arc System Works' 18 year old flagship fighting franchise is back with a new installment. Although it's very similar to the previous game in the series, there's no denying that Revelator elevates Guilty Gear to possibly be the best 2D fighter in years.
In many ways, Revelator can be seen as the definitive version of Guilty Gear Xrd. Packing in more characters, more stages, more modes, and more unlockables, this is what -SIGN- should have originally been. Though it is a shame that this is a standalone release rather than a downloadable upgrade, the sheer amount of content available more than makes up for it.
Sitting between the generous Mortal Kombat X and the disappointing Street Fighter V in terms of features and content, Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator is another fantastic entry in the series that fighting game fans shouldn’t overlook. It’s a marriage of solid fighting mechanics with eye-popping visuals, culminating in a pugilistic experience that is as much fun to watch as it is to play. Some of the modes we’ve come to expect from fighting games such as score and time attack may be missing, but there’s no disputing that Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator deserves to be up there with the heavy-hitters in the ...
Fighting games have a reputation of not being friendly to those new to the genre, and it’s one that is completely deserved. The vast majority of fighting games don’t have tutorials, let alone in-depth ones, and a lot of games in the genre expect players to just figure out the systems it has in place. This has negatively impacted the appeal of fighting games, and it’s something the genre needs to overcome in order to stay relevant. Thankfully, Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- has set a new standard for accessible play, and has taken the genre to a new level.
Rounding it all out, Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- adds enough new content to appeal to both hardcore and casual fighting game fans alike. Although the game isn't as much an evolution of the franchise as Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- was at its release, it's still more than easy enough to recommend.
