Professional reviews from gaming critics

While Gylt has some tragic elements in its story, it’s even more tragic that it was tied to the sinking ship that was Google Staida. Luckily, with its re-release, adults and children alike will be able to get lost in the Lovecraftian lore, unnerving enemy design, and clean aesthetics. Overall, Gylt packs intrigue into every aspect of its gameplay and story without telling you the answers outright,...

While its gameplay can feel a little basic at times, we’re really glad that GYLT is now free of Stadia. This is a small but powerful horror title that tackles an important issue while also providing hours of engaging gameplay. And though there’s nothing truly original here, Tequila Works has obviously put this together with care. If nothing else, it deserves praise for simply being a horror game a...

On the surface, GYLT raises a lot of my green flags when looking at video games. Scary but not hyper-realistic? Check. Tim Burton/Henry Selick-inspired aesthetics? Check. Incredible atmosphere and graphics? Check, check, and check. I was saddened that GYLT was originally released as a Stadia exclusive, which pretty much ensured no one would ever play it (including myself), but once I saw the annou...

There are minor annoyances, such as explanatory tips that pop up every time you pick up an item and a reliance on auto-saves only, but overall it is enjoyable to play. While not the scariest horror game, it has its moments of tension and a nice approach to telling the story of both a child bullied at school and a town with a dark secret. Taking around 7 hours to finish with most collectibles found...

Each game by the incredible Tequila Works is distinct. While they are unique in terms of their gameplay and aesthetics, they do share one quality: an engrossing and touching narrative. Originally stranded on the Google Stadia and then finding its way to other consoles, Gylt, the stealth horror adventure has finally scurried onto the Nintendo Switch. Will this twisted tale burrow deep into your psy...

GYLT won't creep out most genre veterans, but kids deserve quality horror stories too, and there's no better starting place in games than GYLT.

Indie atmospheric adventure games are like candy to me, and I suspect some people are going to get a lot more out of Gylt than others. It’s very much in the same spirit as Concrete Genie in that it’s a short but mostly engaging romp that’s best enjoyed by the right kind of audience.

Horror video games have allowed players to experience the more subtle intricacies of their inner turmoil. Silent Hill 2, for example, was an excellent character story in which a murderer is portrayed as a complicated person instead of your usual good or bad guy. The genre itself has been used to tell stories you wouldn't find in usual media through subtlety and symbolism. With that said, GYLT deli...

Developed and published by Tequila Works, GYLT is a family-friendly horror adventure game which explores the deeper emotional impact of bullying. Taking place in a surreal world of nightmares, you join Sally in solving puzzles, defeating monsters and using inhalers as she searches for her younger cousin.

Stadia is a few months old now and there’s only one true exclusive under its belt. That game is Gylt from Tequilla games, the developer of Deadlight and Rime.  Gylt is a stealth survival horror game and one that captured my interest early on.

Despite its short length and occasional technical hiccups, Gylt is an OK stealth-horror game with knockout visuals and great audio design. It's not nearly compelling enough to sell someone on the Stadia service, but those with the platform wanting to check out something original will likely have a good time with it as long as they don't go in expecting the game to be Stadia's killer app or anythin...
