This eternal war is at the heart of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 – a PlayStation Vita remake of the original PlayStation 3 title, where the Goddesses protecting their respective platforms must cast aside their differences in order to save Gamindustri.

A niche RPG packed with pop culture references and fourth-wall-breaking humour, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1+ may not be a stand-out title, but it sure can be a fun one.

Hyperdimension Neptunia: Re;Birth1 attempts to give new life to its source material, but it straddles the past and present too much and doesn’t find its footing. Is it a satire, or a laughable caricature? How is the varied battle system supposed to be engaging when it makes everything too easy? It’s not strongly one thing or the other, which makes it decidedly average. I grew fond of the characters during my playthrough — one of my favorite things about gaming! — but that made me even more uncomfortable when weird, pseudo-satirical sexual conversations cropped up.
