The choice of an artistic style more focused on tribal themes was a distinguishing factor.
But colour me impressed. When I think indie, I rarely think “open-world”, but BINGOBELL showed me that’s it’s possible to craft a great and ambitious adventure game without a large body count. KAKU: Ancient Seals is one of the best open-world indie games I’ve ever played and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for their fill of lush environments and challenging dungeoneering. ∎
Kaku: Ancient Seal offers a gorgeous world to explore with an emotive and fantastic character model in the titular Kaku. While combat is very serviceable, with numerous enemies to fight and bosses to conquer, the story and writing, among other issues, currently hold it back.
KAKU: Ancient Seal offers a great experience in a fantastic world, but certain design choices leave something to be desired.
KAKU: Ancient Seal is a brilliant game with so much potential, but it needs a lot of cleaning up to really shine. It has a great story, and the unique environments are a joy to explore.
