As soon as I saw the pictures on the eShop I had a feeling I was going to like Kine. It had a nice stylistic look to it, and the gameplay reminded me of Bloxorz

If you’ve got a mind for puzzles, Kine is great. If you’re into the narrative, Kine might make you feel like an afterthought.

The crazy difficulty is exacerbated by a few quality of life issues that are minor on their own, but extremely frustrating when paired with how tough the game can get. The first is the camera, which feels over-tuned to being played on a mouse instead of a controller. While actually holding the right stick, the camera can be moved freely to any angle, but as soon as you let go it will snap back into the nearest cardinal direction. Our review for Gwen Frey’s musical puzzle adventure!

I'm not sure there's grounds for it, but I want to read more into that discordance. Kine might organise itself like a musical composition, but it also keeps you at arm's length from the music. You're here to move the performers around, not strut your stuff. Perhaps the moral of the story there is that raw talent only gets you so far; that the biggest stars took off not just because they had the best tunes, but because they had managers who knew how to move them up the ladder. Or perhaps this is just a game that, for all its enormous cleverness and warmth, hasn't quite put the pieces together.
