Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Kirby and the Forgotten Land's Switch 2 Edition is the best paid upgrade yet, and a worthy addition to one of the Switch's finest platformers.
So yes, the game feels pretty solid and good, and if you own the original, I would definitely consider picking up the upgrade DLC from the Nintendo eShop—and if you haven’t played the original Forgotten Land before, now is the perfect time to do so.
It might not be the most challenging platformer around, but this updated version of Kirby and The Forgotten Land is a worthwhile upgrade for existing owners or a fantastic starting point for newcomers. The new Star-Crossed World expansion makes excellent use of the base game, though I’d have still appreciated trickier boss fights and maybe some more Mouthful abilities.
Kirby has always been a second-string Nintendo property in the West, relatively well known and appreciated, but never on the level of the likes of Mario or Zelda. In recent years, however, the little pink glutton has become far more recognised with the merchandising in particular being ubiquitous. Kirby’s appearances in Smash Bros were a big part of this, but his 3D platforming debut four years ago really put him on the radar. We loved it in our original review, with Stefan praising the ‘vibrantly styled decaying world’ and the joy to be had in Kirby’s many transformations. This new Switch 2 E...
Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World is a brand new version of an awesome game so let's get to it.
While not redefining the genre, the new Kirby is an insanely clever take on platforming that delivers a ton of laughs with its stellar co-op. The Star-Crossed World material adds a fair amount of value for veterans and makes an already sizable game even bigger for newcomers. This is a fantastic game to play through with a kid or a buddy, with challenges and secrets piled into its densely packed levels. Another winner for the Switch 2.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is already a great game, and Star-Crossed World adds more of what works. Not only does it upgrade the base game for the Switch 2, but it also adds a fun expansion with new powers and tons of Kirby charm.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land successfully warps the series’ already fun mix of ability-based combat, platforming, and secret hunting into the third dimension. The post-apocalyptic setting may not be as thematically interesting as Planet Popstar, but it is still lovely and vibrant, with cleverly designed levels that make consistently smart use of Kirby’s abilities. Despite the change in perspective, Forgotten Land maintains most of what I love about classic Kirby games – and if the future means more 3D adventures for our hungry pink hero, I’d be more than happy to swallow them up
Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World is some of the most fun you can have on Nintendo Switch 2, but even with the justification that you might want to return to the game or replay it on Nintendo Switch 2, the high price makes this a game you will probably spend more than you'd like on.
An excellent upgrade that lets Kirby and the Forgotten Land truly shine on Switch 2, though its pricing and brief new content hold it back from being an easy must-buy.
