Leo's Fortune Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Finally we’re faced with a conclusion, albeit predictable, which leaves us feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, ending the game with an “aww” rather than an “ugh”. Leo’s Fortune doesn’t bring anything new to the table, but what it does do is take the best of platformers and polish them like a pair of newly bought school shoes. It’s a small thing yet one plenty of developers overlook: before creating a new element, look at the old and make sure it really shines. Take note, all.

Leo's Fortune is platforming as it should be and is definitely reminiscent of a time gone by, when little blue hedgehogs and Italian plumbers adventured across the screens in games that were as simplistic as they were enjoyable. There is enough variety in Leo's adventure to keep it fresh as the game progresses and the overall length, while shorter than we may have come to expect from modern games, will leave you wanting more.

Leo's Fortune is very, very short, but the small amount of content that is there is focused, charming, and wrapped in an absolutely gorgeous package.

1337 & Senri's game is a great indie platformer that's a bit on the short side, but for $7, it's a steal. Challenging and enjoyable while it lasts, Leo's Fortune is well worth a punt. It's the best game starring a furry green testicle with a moustache that you're ever likely to play.

It seems like every month there are thousands of new platformers released onto the market, and amid this crowd, it can be very hard for original titles to stand out and attract the attention of gamers. Leo's Fortune, developed by Swedish studio 1337 & Senri, aims to buck this trend. It packs plenty of reasons to convince you to play, including a heartfelt story, responsive controls, and gorgeous visuals.

So what we have in all is a beautiful platformer with ups and downs (literally and figuratively), a mundane narrative with a good message, and some real difficulty toward the end. The whole game probably only takes about an hour or two to finish (with full game speedruns clocking in at about 45 minutes.
