Mario Golf: Super Rush Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
While Mario Golf: Super Rush isn't the deepest experience, the arcade gameplay and modes on offer allow it to stay on par.
The best Mario Golf game since the N64 original and while it does have some odd ideas they’re almost all optional, resulting in an impressively comprehensive sporting experience.
Good, not great. Fun yet frustrating. Scratching the itch while giving me athlete's foot. The new modes feel rushed and not completely thought out to be much more than a stunt. The game feels balanced when choosing which character to play, and the adventure mode will easily fill in the void of playing by yourself, just don't go looking for a gripping story. Mario Golf: Super Rush tees it off, but has the ball landing in the rough.
Mario Golf: Super Rush is a fast-paced spin on the relaxing sport that oozes excitement.
While it may not be the best entry in the series, Nintendo has at least managed to make par with Mario Golf: Super Rush by offering the core arcade style golfing experience players come to expect alongside some enjoyable new game types that will hopefully continue to get even better with future updates.
It's great to see Mario Golf: Speed Rush reviving another Mario sports franchise for Nintendo Switch, but it's a game that feels that restrained in some places and muddled in others. The Adventure mode loses its focus half way through, and it lacks course variety, but underneath it all, this is still a fun, accessible and often frantic golf game that is easy to enjoy.
Despite the mulligans I wish Mario Golf: Super Rush could take, it’s still a strongly delivered game any fan of party games and party sport simulators in particular can enjoy alone or with friends.
“Mario Golf: Super Rush features elegant golf systems, but is devoid of content that makes good use of it.”
Some genuinely fun and exciting new game modes aren’t quite enough to distract from how quickly you can experience everything Mario Golf: Super Rush has to offer.
Mario Golf Super Rush has plenty of initial charm, but comes up short in terms of content.
Mario Golf: Super Rush is ultimately at its best when it tries to be two things and two things only: "Mario" and "Golf." The actual course designs are solid. Sprinkling in obstacles like Brolders and Pokeys across some uniquely designed courses offers that unique Mario flavor that can't be found in another golf game. Trying to navigate around that stuff with solid golfing fundamentals is a formula for a good time, especially with friends. There just isn't enough of it, even though Standard, Speed, and Battle Golf all offer a variety of house rule options that can be used on or offline.
Mario Golf: Super Rush introduces several great ideas, but it never invests in them. The result is a title far less than the sum of its parts. While there’s certainly some fun to be had playing with friends, Super Rush should be a better game than it is.
