The Nintendo Switch is definitely the platform for bringing back titles with a brand new coat of paint. Some are really transparent: the port for New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe is downright offensive (no one actually likes Luigi U), and even Bayonetta receives little more than a shrug. “You probably didn’t own a Wii U, so buy this now.” Nintendo took bigger swings with other properties, giving Super Mario 3D World a whole new chunk of Bowser’s Fury, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore...

RPGamer hits the links with the release of Mario Golf: Super Rush. Tight golf mechanics are frustrated by a tacked-on adventure mode.

Super Rush is quite a nice-looking game, as the courses and characters both have that Nintendo polish that’s so hard to replicate. The character designs are excellent, from Wario’s goofy golf-cowboy look to the more traditional attire of Mario and Pauline. The courses are lively and gorgeous, even if they could use a bit more visual variety. The music is well-suited for Super Rush, as there are Mario motifs woven into relaxing and breezy tracks that make golfing feel pleasant.

Mario Golf: Super Rush introduces several great ideas, but it never invests in them. The result is a title far less than the sum of its parts. While there’s certainly some fun to be had playing with friends, Super Rush should be a better game than it is.

Good, not great. Fun yet frustrating. Scratching the itch while giving me athlete's foot. The new modes feel rushed and not completely thought out to be much more than a stunt. The game feels balanced when choosing which character to play, and the adventure mode will easily fill in the void of playing by yourself, just don't go looking for a gripping story. Mario Golf: Super Rush tees it off, but has the ball landing in the rough.

While it may not be the best entry in the series, Nintendo has at least managed to make par with Mario Golf: Super Rush by offering the core arcade style golfing experience players come to expect alongside some enjoyable new game types that will hopefully continue to get even better with future updates.

Mario Golf Super Rush has plenty of initial charm, but comes up short in terms of content.

While Mario Golf: Super Rush isn't the deepest experience, the arcade gameplay and modes on offer allow it to stay on par.

Some genuinely fun and exciting new game modes aren’t quite enough to distract from how quickly you can experience everything Mario Golf: Super Rush has to offer.

Mario Golf: Super Rush is ultimately at its best when it tries to be two things and two things only: "Mario" and "Golf." The actual course designs are solid. Sprinkling in obstacles like Brolders and Pokeys across some uniquely designed courses offers that unique Mario flavor that can't be found in another golf game. Trying to navigate around that stuff with solid golfing fundamentals is a formula for a good time, especially with friends. There just isn't enough of it, even though Standard, Speed, and Battle Golf all offer a variety of house rule options that can be used on...

The Mario sports games are always an interesting spectacle when a new one drops. In nature, they’re not going to be the amazing, maybe even masterpiece game the mainline entries often are. Still, they always offer a sporting adventure that’s more fun than it has any right to be. Maybe it’s the iconography of Mario characters that helps. Maybe it’s that the gameplay is in fact quite good. In Mario Golf: Super Rush‘s case, it unfortunately doesn’t have much of either going for it.

Despite the mulligans I wish Mario Golf: Super Rush could take, it’s still a strongly delivered game any fan of party games and party sport simulators in particular can enjoy alone or with friends.

Mario and friends have made a miraculous comeback to the golf course after a surprisingly prolonged absence. While developer Camelot has prioritised Mario’s tennis career, Mario Golf Super Rush marks the end of a seven-year hiatus since Mario Golf World Tour (2014, 3DS), and an astonishing 18-year wait since the last console instalment, with Toadstool Tour on GameCube. Somehow, Mario and golf didn’t team up during the Wii waggle-fest.

It's great to see Mario Golf: Speed Rush reviving another Mario sports franchise for Nintendo Switch, but it's a game that feels that restrained in some places and muddled in others. The Adventure mode loses its focus half way through, and it lacks course variety, but underneath it all, this is still a fun, accessible and often frantic golf game that is easy to enjoy.

Mario's been hitting the links since the good old NES days and he's at it again in what is perhaps his most enjoyable sports outing so far.

The best Mario Golf game since the N64 original and while it does have some odd ideas they’re almost all optional, resulting in an impressively comprehensive sporting experience.

Swings in multiple different directions without ever making a convincing impact. While Mario Golf: Super Rush isn't too rough in most places, it's just not on par compared to other recent golf games.

Mario Kart and Mario Tennis players understand that when Nintendo’s cast of characters infiltrate a sport, they take the spirit of the game and turn it on its head with power-ups, unique character abilities, and zany courses. The game of golf is a patient affair, but when Mario and company step up to the tee in Mario Golf: Super Rush, it’s hardly slow-paced, as the unique take on the sport injects foot races, battle modes, and special abilities to often chaotic results.

Mario has tried his hand at plenty of pastimes over the years, but for whatever reason, it seems the laidback sport of golf is the usually-hyper plumber’s favorite. Mario’s club-swinging obsession began with the NES black-box classic Golf back in 1985, and following numerous sequels on almost every Nintendo platform, he’s about to hit the links again with Mario Golf: Super Rush.
