I wouldn’t say Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Battle Destiny is a terrible game by any stretch of the imagination, but it could’ve been so much better. It successfully recreates the hectic mecha battles that the Gundam franchise is known for in an interactive format. I had fun playing it, even if I had to step away after every hour or two of play. I can only hope a future Gundam game can capture the true scope of the franchise in its entirety, but as it stands? MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED BATTLE DESTINY REMASTERED is a title that Gundam fans will love, though it is a bit unbalanced, making it quite challenging.
All in all, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered is a fun mecha action title with solid visuals, audio, and mechanics. It’s not anything truly special, but it is a treat for Gundam SEED fans. I just wish they’d properly adapted the franchise’s narrative instead of slapping a few plot twists on as an afterthought.
The absence of the original’s multiplayer modes limits how players can engage with the Battle Destiny Remastered. I’m glad this game exists, that it is available outside of Japan… Still, it’s hard to thoroughly recommend something flawed in its original iteration in one way, and compromised in its remastered release in an entirely different way.
While this is unlikely to be a game that anyone beyond existing Gundam fans enjoy, those who do get into it will find a compelling gameplay loop with dozens of hours of content; unfortunately, that loop and content is wrapped up in outdated visuals and terrible onboarding for newcomers.
