The Hyperdimension Neptunia series has seen titular character Neptune and other goddesses running around in Gamindustri for over a decade now, and the 2010 original saw a remake for the Vita in 2013. That remake has itself been remade, this time for the PlayStation 5. Hyperdimension Neptunia is celebrating its 10th anniversary! The CPU's make their PS5 debuts in Neptunia ReVerse, a remake of the 2014 Vita remake. With new hardware and functionality, this is the series' chance to make a big impression heading into the generation. However, it ends up having a hard time balancing improving and remaking, resulting in an effort that's faithful to a fault.
Neptunia ReVerse is clearly a “first-run effort” by Idea Factory to take the tools of the PlayStation 5 and see what they can do with them. It’s perhaps a less ambitious effort than what Idea Factory made as its launch on PlayStation 4 (Omega Quintet), but putting that aside, this is a genuinely good game, worth the time of any JRPG fan, and by its very nature the perfect introduction to the entire series for new players with the new console.
