Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is just as good today as it was 17 years ago. In an era of gaming where first-person cameras in third-person games were used as a crutch for early camerawork, Stranger’s Wrath uses it to its advantage to build a solid action-adventure game that I can easily recommend to anyone.
Ultimately, this Switch port of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is seriously worth considering if you’ve never played the game before. Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD remains original, engaging, fun, and humorous. It feels nearly as fresh now as it did 15 years ago – though I’m not sure if that’s a compliment to the game or an indictment of the games industry. Either way, Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD deserves to be loved, so give it a go. The Switch is as good a format as any to play it on. In fact, it might even be the best. Only its inflated price should make you think twice.
Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, a spin-off to Lorne Lanning’s bizarre but acclaimed cinematic platformer Oddworld series, was originally released for the OG Xbox in 2005. There have been additional HD versions released for the weirdest assortment of consoles in the years since, ranging from the Vita to the freaking Ouya.
Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is one of the more unique games to come out of the last generation. It may drag a bit at times and doesn’t do shooting or platforming amazingly well, but it blends the genres together into an almost always fun romp. Annoyances aside, Stranger’s Wrath stands the test of time as a good title and a testament to the love put into creating the Oddworld universe. Anthony Gallegos is an Editor on IGN's PC team. Oddworld Inhabitants' fourth and most recent game is back yet again so boot up your Switch and don't be a Stranger.
Despite being fifteen years old, Stranger's Wrath is still holding up well, mainly thanks to its unique shooting mechanics and interestingly created world. But the Switch port could have been better.
