Omno from Jonas Manke has been on our radar for quite a while. In fact, it’s one of the games we featured in our Kickstarter Round-Up in October 2018. Not only did Manke manage to reach his goal, but he crushed it, thanks to the overwhelming support of so many backers. Obviously, many people saw the potential in Omno and now we have been rewarded by a mellow, creative, and memorable game.

The world of Omno is vast and visually stunning. As a protagonist with no voice or name, you will explore a beautiful world around you, discovering the history of those who came before you, and the connections between living beings and the Light. You have nothing moving you forward on your pilgrimage other than the staff in your hands and the promise of Light guiding your way.

If you have any interest in puzzle-platformers, don't let Omno pass you by. It's one of the most heartwarming adventures you can experience on PlayStation 4 with a level of charm seldom found in the medium.

Overall Omno is a great experience if you want to just vibe out with some breathtaking otherworldly animals and environments and lose yourself in exploring these worlds. It's a nice few hours of chill adventuring that I’d recommend to anyone even remotely interested in less traditional games. If you enjoyed games like Journey or Flower, you'll also enjoy Omno.

My time with Omno was pleasant, and while I don't think it's a life-changing experience by any means, it does have a certain life-affirming quality to it. Simply put, Omno is an enjoyable journey through a magical world, where so many other games would fill such a setting with chaos.

OMNO is a passion project for developer Jonas Manke. He single-handedly created his Journey-inspired puzzle platformer over the course of five years. While he previously has game experience animating characters for State of Decay 2, his first title has headed in a completely different direction as players set off on a gentle journey of discovery rather than a harrowing journey of survival.

Omno is an incredibly peaceful yet thoughtful adventure through the remnants of a lost civilization. The inviting nature of it all, coupled with the world’s diversity and vast array of creatures makes it one worth exploring. Though I had some issues with platforming, there’s enough there to make Omno quite an enjoyable experience.

In conclusion, Omno is a very calming experience of exploration and wonder. Anyone with an interest in platforming, puzzle-solving and losing themselves in a make-believe world should play it as soon as they can. It appears to this reviewer that the gamble taken by Jonas Manke in giving up his day job to create this masterpiece was the right thing to do. Hopefully, as it is available right now on Xbox Game Pass a lot of people will take the time to experience it.

Omno provides a great escape from this suffocating world we live in today through its complete absence of any gloom and doom. Jonas Manke a.k.a. StudioInkyfox initially created this passion project as an escape on Kickstarter, and it really does deliver. Just be sure to play this game on a platform that doesn’t just fulfill its minimum requirements—I had the misfortune of installing it first on a PC that was so choppy and laggy I couldn’t even make the shortest jump across two platforms.

This game doesn’t do anything new, but it doesn’t need to. Omno’s delightful vibe, slick polish, and carefully crafted design make it a game worth experiencing, even if just to marvel at the cinematic wonder that can be achieved by a single developer. If Omno is the type of game that typically appeals to you, I can absolutely recommend that it is worth your time.
