Prey: Mooncrash Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Arkane leverages Prey's strengths in gameplay with a rogue like twist on story delivery for one of the best DLCs of the year.
Arkane Studios’ immersive reboot of Prey was entertaining, even if it lurked a little too long in the shadows of Deus Ex and System Shock for its own good. I loved exploring the mysterious space station Talos 1 and learning how to bypass obstacles by turning into coffee cups or raising former crewmates to fight my battles. However, tedious backtracking and dull combat often muddied Prey’s offerings. The Mooncrash expansion pack remedies most of the base game’s ills and creates the experience I wish I had played last year.
There's no doubt, Mooncrash is a must play for anyone who enjoyed Prey. But it's also a must play for any fan of roguelike games. The RPG aspects, the procedural content, the mystery of the story... it's all so on point that it's hard to knock for anything but the similar faults of the original game. Prey: Mooncrash is, simply put, the best stab at a roguelike a Triple-A studio has ever tried, and it's proof that there's room to expand on the format.
An interesting attempt to blend roguelite elements within a narrative and a welcome return to Prey’s quirky alien world. It won’t be for everyone but it’s a satisfying, fun and challenging experience for fans of one of last year’s best games.
Get ready to re-install Prey as this surprise DLC gives you a whole new roguelike way to play the game!
Escape from a TranStar moon base in this unusual expansion.
There are a lot of people who will get a kick out of Prey: Mooncrash, and we respect this - and we realise and like that it’s a different type of challenge to the main game. However, we loved Prey and Mooncrash just left us cold.
