In 1998, a special forces team is sent to investigate some bizarre murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Upon arriving, they are attacked by a pack of bloodthirsty dogs and are forced to take cover in a nearby mansion. But the scent of death hangs heavy in the air. Supplies are scarce as they struggle to stay alive.

The Resident Evil series has been esteemed by fans for many years, so any attempt at a remake for one of its most beloved titles will inevitably be met with high expectations and near febrile anticipation. The remake of RE2 set a high bar, and by most accounts the RE3R fell far below it. We’re happy to report that the remake of Resident Evil 4 represents a return to form, and even sets a gold standard for any remake of a classic game.

Almost perfect if not for the nitty-gritty. If it’s quite there but not enough to push the boundaries, it’s still an awesome game.

The original Resident Evil 4, released way back in 2005, is an undeniable classic that single handily inspired some of my favourite games of all time. Including the fantastic Dead Space which also to has happened to just have had its own superb remake. It changed the gaming landscape forever, with the likes of Gears of War and Last of Us not existing without it. It’s hard not to deny the impact that Resident Evil 4 had, but it wasn’t perfect, and a few sections in the game’s second half...

While I still think the Resident Evil 2 Remake is the king, Resident Evil 4 Remake is still a fantastic game. Fans of Resident Evil or survival horror, in general, should check it out.

Visually, Resident Evil 4 Remake is as beautiful as it is disturbing. Characters like the chainsaw-wielding Dr. Salvador or the already-terrifying Regenerators are given new life without having their designs changed in any way that makes them unrecognizable. The iconic set pieces that Resident Evil 4 is known for look exactly as I thought they did when the original game looked sharp and HD to me, which is the greatest compliment I could give to a remake.

It may have been sold on seemingly every platform on the planet, but finally we have a proper remake to the 2005 classic. Every square inch of Resident Evil 4 has been remade with incredible detail. There’s new side quests to take care of, such as mini-boss fights, and optional backtracking to open up the three major areas, allowing each to feel lived in. There are locations that have been removed or completely reworked, but they've been done so to make more sense. It’s both new and nostalgic, with the overall progression being the same, but the contents within being adjusted to be even more exciting. This isn’t a perfect remake as we’re not entirely sold on the knife and armor durability and a lot of the campy dialogue has been scrubbed from existence. Leon is still a charming, sometimes comical individual, but the lack of interaction between him, Hunnigan, Saddler and even Salazar will be sorely missed. Regardless, Leon’s adventures back into the Spanish mountainside is a surprising breath of fresh air. Hitting all the right notes in being something for both newcomers and long-running fans alike, Resident Evil 4 Remake is a triumph that lives up to the exceedingly high expectations.

With the RE2 and RE3 remakes in the bag, Capcom is now on to the Resident Evil 4 remake. RE4 was the entry that took the series in an interesting new direction, with an over-the-shoulder camera and heavier focus on the action. It was a bold risk that paid off with a huge boost in mainstream appeal and critical acclaim. However, this evolution cost Resident Evil much of its horror game soul, which was sent further out of balance with RE5 and RE6.

Although Resident Evil 4 is a superb remake, it still exists in the shadow of what made the original so important. However, the parry system stands out as the most welcome change to the largely familiar proceedings. At its core, the game remains the same stupendous spectacle of action horror it always was, but with arguably even higher intensity.

Capcom knows how to nail a remake, with Resident Evil 4 being a intricate mix of scares, humor, and fast-paced combat. Although I had a few complaints, I extensively enjoyed my time playing this third-person shooter.

There are two entirely different audiences for the Resident Evil 4 remake: those who have played the original game, perhaps multiple or even dozens of times over the last 18 years, and people who have never played it, but want to know what the fuss is all about. Let's start with the former: unequivocally, if you are a fan of Resident Evil 4, you must play the remake. It's not only one of the best action games in recent memory; it's the best Resident Evil since, well, probably the original Resident Evil 4.

This well-optimized game is baffling at how good it feels to kill some zombies on-the-go. Don't pass up on this one or I will become your nemesis.

Overall, the quality of Resident Evil 2 Remake is of the highest caliber. The frights and jump scares you will experience will make you want to run and hide. The villains of the game are more frightening than ever and you will feel it when you see things for the first time. Coming in at $59.99 for the retail version and $69.99 USD for the Deluxe version. It is available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 right now so go grab it.

Resident Evil 2 is much more than a HD update that so many people thought it would be. Just like Resident Evil when it was brought back for the Gamecube, things have been changed around enough to make the game fresh and exciting, even for those Resident Evil diehards who have played the original to death.

We’ve been sitting here for hours thinking about any negatives the game might have, and nothing drastic comes to mind. Of course, we could nitpick and say that all the backtracking adds extra unneeded hours to the game, or that some zombies take way more headshots to kill than others—but those critiques make Resident Evil what it is.
