It offers some of the best survival horror action gameplay in the series, while finding ways to keep the more horror-focused sections still feeling tense. In short, for anyone who’s started the series from Resident Evil 7 onwards, Resident Evil Requiem may easily be one of the best in the series. For everyone else, the bar is high to be considered one of the greats, but it definitely does a heck of a job jumping for it.

While it’s not without its tedium, and the new protagonist takes a minute to find her feet, Requiem finally strikes the balance between action and horror that Capcom’s wrestled with for all these years.

Resident Evil Requiem is everything that RE fans could want out of the next entry in the series and more. It walks a tightrope of horror and action, but has perfected this balance in a way that delivers a heart-stopping, adrenaline-pumping good time, regardless of what kind of RE fan you are. Even with its disparities, abysmal pacing, and continuations of mechanics already explored and somewhat exhausted, Requiem was a bloody good time, and I look forward to seeing how it digests in my stomach. Maybe I’ll see if its scent settles, if it will be tucked away in some hole in my memory, and I will think of Grace and Leon when I sense it, out in the world. Or, more likely, if its smell will soon dissipate, never to occupy a place inside my brain.
