A surprisingly enjoyable twin-stick shooter. What I experienced over 10 hours spent playing Riddled Corpses EX wasn't what I had expected going in, [...]
Riddled Corpses EX has a strong foundation with a steep but engaging difficulty. The game is grindy, though, and has a few things keeping it from feeling polished and complete. Either way, Riddled Corpses EX has everything an addictive twin-stick shooter should have, and it does those things well.
Riddled Corpses Ex was released digitally back in June last year, but it’s now being given the physical release treatment courtesy of Red Art Games. (Editor’s Note: We didn’t review the game with its original launch, so this review is to celebrate the retail release of the game. Content is unchanged from the digital to the physical release.) The game is an arcade-like twin-stick shooter with pixel style graphics and an energetic chiptune soundtrack.
Riddle Corpses EX doesn’t go beyond its initial premise and I’ll admit I’m more than tired of zombies and demons as the go-to cookie-cutter enemies. With a bit more personality or perhaps some original ideas, it’d be a no-brainer to recommend. As is, it’s simply a fun and challenging twin-stick shooter that’s perfect in short bursts. Quite frankly, that’s good enough.
The developers of the excellent roguelite Xenon Valkyrie tackle the twin-stick shooter genre in this zombie-filled adventure.
