Lastly is the commentators. They start off okay at the start of the course but quickly fall off. It seemed like they just kind of randomly loop certain messages, regardless of what you were doing on the course. To be fair, I've never been a fan of commentators in sports games. As usual, I just ended up turning them off and played some music in the house.

Overall, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour certainly does have its good points. The tight mechanics and gameplay cannot be overlooked and EA certainly has made good on that ground. Is it as enjoyable as the previous titles? No. It lacks the depth which its predecessors possessed and as a result, you’re left with little will to return. Regardless, this is the first half-decent golfing game on the current gen consoles, and aside from the gimmicky Night Club Challenges and inclusion of Star Wars Battlefront-themed courses, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour offers a level of realism that you’re unlikely to find anywhere ...

The in-game experience is excellent, with beautiful scenery, accurate courses, and the true feel of a broadcast.  The overall product is hurt, however, by a lack of courses, big name golfers, and stripped down modes.  Gamers expect to be wowed after two years of development, not left with an empty feeling.

EA Sports' franchises haven't always had easy transitions to new systems. Rory's debut isn't as bare as last year's NHL 15, nor as unplayable as Madden NFL 06 was last generation, but its charms are limited. It does some things well, but they aren't enough to make it stand out.

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is solid enough out on the course but it’s just lacking too many of the series’ fundamentals to make it worthwhile for golf fans. Concessions are often made when sports games straddle the gap between console generations old and new, but considering the two year wait for a game that is only being released on current gen hardware, the rampant slash and burn of its feature set is particularly galling. A solid golf game that suffers from a lack of courses and little in the way of imaginative modes. A step backwards from the most recent Tiger Woods games, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is not the series refresh we’d hoped for.

The gameplay basics are fine, but this is the absolute bare bones of what a golf game should be – with less than half the amount of content of the last game in the series.
