Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Saint Seiya, or more commonly known as Knights of the Zodiac in North America, is a classic anime and manga series from around the 1980s that has similar aspects to other anime such as Dragon Ball Z and Naruto. As most know, Dragon Ball Z and Naruto have video games that have already landed in North America, but Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers is one of a couple of Saint Seiya games to hit North American shores. Being familiar to the anime and manga world I’ve seen Saint Seiya in magazines and such, but I have never actually watched or read the series, although it’s not to say that I’ve never been...
Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers is a decent tribute to anime series that never caught much attention this side of the Pacific. The fighting is pretty looking, but very barebones; the music is catchy, but repetitive; and all the extra modes while solid, don’t do much to make this title truly stand out. Fans of the Naruto: Shippuden and the Dragon Ball Z fighters will feel unfulfilled, but for loyalists of Saint Seiya, Brave Soldiers offers just enough fanfare to make this worth the time.
One step forward, three steps back; that's the motto for Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers. Where it welcomes its crowd with accessible simplicity, it kills its attached gameplay elements by streamlining too much of it into one generic blob. It’s serviceable and in no one way flawed, but so close to the median that it may as well cast off anything else it tries to achieve with it. This one has been blended into a tasteless paste. It’s food, it’s nutritious, but it’s certainly not exciting.
The Saint Seiya series comes alive as a fighting game that features an all-star cast of characters from one of the most beloved and well-received Japanese anime franchises.
