Speaking of quests, Shadowverse: Champion's Battle has an entire world to explore outside of its card battler gameplay. Between scenes, players can roam around the school and the surrounding area in a good number of fully 3D environments. There are collectibles to grab, side characters to chat up, and a few bonus objectives hidden around each map. I have to say I’m impressed with the juggernaut that is Japanese developer Cygames. Sure, their bread and butter is making mobile games infested with gacha mechanics. But whenever they decide to make a game aimed solely at consoles, they actually put a ton of effort into their titles, porting their existing mobile franchises into full-fledged console experiences with little to no microtransactions. The music and voicework in Champion’s Battle are quite well-done. The English voice acting is quite spirited and enthusiastic, which sells the exciting atmosphere of Shadowverse rather well. The music is just as lively, with some truly bumping tracks that get you in the mood to throw-down at a children’s card game.

I have really enjoyed Shadowverse, and I will no doubt keep this on my Switch as my go-to game when I’m stuck on the Tube. The problem is that if anyone looks over my shoulder to see what I’m playing, they’re probably going to make a snap judgement about me and what I’m into.
