Nitrome and Yacht Club Games' collaboration makes for the best looking (and sounding) Shovel Knight game yet. Rock solid, tight controls and fun roguelite mechanics make this a must play for any fan of the genre.

Shovel Knight Dig finds our spade-wielding hero heading in another new direction, and while this trip goes downward, they manage to strike gold here as well. Addictive gameplay, gorgeous graphics and impressive levels that play host to a lot of unique challenges all get mixed together in order to create another winning action game worth checking out for fans and newcomers alike. It truly is another gem that's been dug up here.

Shovel Knight Dig is beautiful with great music and fits right into the franchise, even though it switches things up from the 2D platformer we are used to. It is an incredibly addictive game that is full of replayability!

The core gameplay of Shovel Knight Dig is solid, and the level design is a lot of fun, but the lack of build options, unfair-feeling deaths, and bothersome bugs hold it back. Perhaps with a few improvements to Shovel Knight Dig it can stand shoulder to shoulder with its predecessors. Ultimately, however, it's not quite there yet.

Shovel Knight Dig takes everything that was fantastic about the retro platformer and recontextualizes it into a roguelike that's hard to put down.

While not packed with content, Shovel Knight Dig is rich in quality. Charming pixel artwork combined with excellent level chunks and tight gameplay make it well worth the hours spent.

The Blue Burrower returns in Shovel Knight Dig, bringing the franchise’s particular brand of pixelated platforming in a roguelike direction as you venture down in the mines to recover your treasure from the nefarious Hexcavators. Shovel Knight Dig is a short but highly enjoyable time, and is the most fun I have had with a roguelike game in a while.

Shovel Knight Dig is a fun little rogue-lite. While it took me over ten hours to beat, I know better, more rogue-lite skilled players will not need as much time. I did not encounter bugs or errors with my time; but more than a few of what felt like unfair deaths. The chaotic gameplay of Dig makes it hard to see how great the pixel art is at times, but being able to literally slow down the gameplay or adjust my health and damage output makes it easier to appreciate the visuals. I greatly enjoyed my time with Shovel Knight Dig, mainly because of the inventive central digging mechanic and the implementation of classic series elements. That includes the 16-bit visual style and the toe-tapping soundtrack that feels like it fits in perfectly with the Shovel Knight world. I had such a good time with this adventure that I felt like it ended way too soon. Dig is about the length of many old-school NES/SNES platformers, which means it's possible to complete the story from the beginning in somewhere between 20-30 minutes.
