Lately, Sonic the hedgehog hasn't been getting the recognition, or games he deserves. There was a time when the Blue Blur was as popular as Super Mario but sadl
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a game of massive highs and crushing lows. Thankfully, M2 and Sega have made those lows much less frustrating in this 3D version, making this the definitive way to play this imperfect, but essential, classic.
So it's more, more and more. That's Sonic the Hedgehog 2, all summed up. It's a true sequel to an established hit game – taking the characters, gameplay and overall feel of the original and enhancing each one. Sonic 2 became even more of a hit than its predecessor, probably thanks to word of mouth praising the first game and converted fans wanting to get in on the ground floor once the sequel hit. To be fair, the game is not entirely meritless. The 8-bit visuals hold up reasonably well, as do many of the better chiptune melodies. While the sense of speed is inferior to its forerunner, it at least seems to operate more smoothly. It’s regrettable that these details are pointless since the core experience is so broken.
