Split/Second is an intense action racing game set within the world of a hyper-competitive reality television show. Competitors vie to be the first across the finish line in a made-for-TV city built for destruction, with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion.
In the end though, Split/Second has so much going for it that it's easy to recommend for kart and arcade racing fans alike. The visuals are great, the sound impresses, and there's enough game between the singleplayer season mode and fun multiplayer to last you quite a while. While there are flaws, these are more than made up for with strong design, and the power play mechanic brings the ever elusive addictive x-factor that so many games try and fail to capture. Even if racing games aren't typically your thing, Split/Second offers enough action and fun to recommend to everyone.

Racing games tend to fall into two categories; either the hardcore simulation or the arcade style thrill ride. This game is unashamedly in the latter category and makes no secret of the fact that it is about big dumb fun and plenty of explosions. Think of it as the Michael Bay style blockbuster of the gaming world and you will not be far wrong.
