SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Its ridiculous advert starring David Hasselhoff isn't the only brilliant thing about SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide. This is an excellent platforming adventure, featuring a great mix of character skills, fantastic level design and plenty of side quests. Even if you're not a fan of SpongeBob, there's a lot here to love.

The vast majority of SpongeBob Squarepants 3D platformers are actually much better than they have any right to be, but 2023’s The Cosmic Shake was one hell of a surprise to all of us. THQ Nordic and Purple Lamp went out of their way to deliver a perfect combination of great visuals, solid platforming, and hilarious fanservice, culminating in what was, at the time, the best SpongeBob game ever made. Yes, even better than Battle for Bikini Bottom. So when THQ announced a sequel to that game, ...

SpongeBob Squarepants: Titan of Tides is a fantastic platformer, with tight controls, lots of variety, and plenty of Bikini Bottom residents.

Nov 17, 2025 Read Review

While SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide isn’t particularly challenging, it's well-written, consistently fun and fun enough to be enjoyed by Goofy Goobers, young and old.

Titans of the Tide is the best SpongeBob game in a long time, even if it’s a little lacking in laughs and length.

Developer Purple Lamp Studios has been honing its craft working on several licensed games, with more than one SpongeBob title under its belt.

This title could also appeal to younger gamers who are just starting to get into SpongeBob. There aren't many callbacks to old SpongeBob episodes here, and the story is entirely new, so someone who's only seen a handful of episodes could still appreciate it. Titans of the Tide isn't going to blow anyone away, but it's a solid title, and it would make a nice holiday gift for a SpongeBob fan.

I’m too old to have experienced SpongeBob SquarePants in its original cartoon form, but it’s impossible to be a denizen of the internet without being exposed to the endless memes and references to the iconic series. Even without that, there have been a whole host of games starring the lovable sponge over a multitude of different consoles. The best of these by far have been the 3D platformers following on from Battle for Bikini Bottom, with developers Purple Lamp continuing to produce high quality games that capture the madcap nature of the cartoon whilst also providing genuinely entertaining g...

Even with its weak level variety, you’ll still have fun exploring new areas of SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide, each well-detailed and full of secrets to find.

Nov 17, 2025 Read Review

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is a mixed bag. On the one hand, the story and moment-to-moment platforming are a lot of fun, and it's always great to see the cast of the SpongeBob TV series return for a cartoon-styled adventure. On the other hand, the lack of innovation after The Cosmic Shake, the lackluster side quests, and boring levels put a dampener on the entire experience. If you're just starting out with the 3D platformer genre and love SpongeBob, this is the game for you. O...

Nov 17, 2025 Read Review

Despite the pleasantries Titans of the Tide offers that makes it easy  breezy and a fair old hoot for SpongeBob fans, you would expect this latest entry to improve on The Cosmic Shake, rather than behaving like a slippery sidestep. Unfortunately, Titans of the Tide is out of its depths because it comes across as an unfinished game that has some sparkling ideas, but the execution is hamstrung by its terrible camera and banal combat, platforming and puzzles. If you want to delve into another SpongeBob game this one might do just fine, but for everybody else Titans of the Tide is a titanic case o...
