Professional reviews from gaming critics
Stray Blade delivers a lot of content in its fantasy journey. While most of the game comes together well, key elements greatly hurt the core gameplay. But, if you are willing to weather these added struggles, this game has some rewarding exploration and combat to deliver to gamers.
I don’t envy developers, especially those making a soulslike action game. The competition is enormous, and any game hoping to claim even a small fraction of fan love needs to bring some new ideas and deliver on them. In the case of Stray Blade, developer Point Blank Games is banking on a welcoming art style and unique take on action combat to make its game stand out. But does it?
Stray Blade has so much potential to be amazing, but sadly, it falls quite far behind and might follow in the same footsteps as Shock Tactics.
Stray Blade tries to bite off more than it can chew, and it really shows. The combat is dull and lifeless, the world is interesting but muddled, and the whole thing feels a bit undercooked. There are good ideas in Stray Blade and it has potential, but that potential is not reached here.
Stray Blade attempts to set itself apart in the now all too overcrowded souls-like genre. Though aside from some vibrant visuals, a more standard approach to storytelling and world-building, and an attempt at a simpler combat system, the game needs to do more to stand out from the pack.
