Strike Vector EX is a small game with a lot of heart. While the campaign is sub-par and it doesn’t offer the depth or longevity or other titles, what’s there is fun, fast, and wild. Released at a discount price, this is definitely a game to rope one or two friends into buying with you so you can always have a wingman (or nemesis) on call on and seed some multiplayer action.
Strike Vector EX pulled on a lot of nostalgic heartstrings for me, and it was a refreshing experience. The gameplay is amazingly tight and controllable, and the combat is hectic and fun. The heavy rock soundtrack fits the atmosphere of the game perfectly. This remaster of the old Strike Vector has given players a bigger, grander world to explore. The campaign is short and lacking, but the multiplayer is worth the price of admission alone. If you’re a fan of dogfights, this is a game you shouldn’t pass up. Strike Vector EX’s single player content ranges between okay and actively bad. It really needed an active multiplayer to save it, but it seems that the player base has already ejected.
Whether or not they follow through with the content remains to be seen at this stage, but Strike Vector’s launch is a promising start that deserves a larger player base than it’s currently got. Once the initial learning curve is hurdled, this is a pick-up-and-play game of frantic, twitch-based action with a distinctive old-school shooter tucked behind its pretty visuals. Once you’re there, this is a fast, unforgiving, graceful and exciting experience.
