Never has a game made me rub my eyes and tense my hands as much as Super Cloudbuilt. It manages to balance its intense parkour action with awesome graphics, an interesting story, and an overall lengthy experience so let's jump to it.
Super Cloudbuilt‘s frenetic nature means it won’t be for everybody – it starts challenging and only gets harder from there – but for those who can keep up with its breakneck pace and conundrum-like levels, it’ll be addictive and utterly mesmerising. Completing a level for the first time is rewarding enough, but revisiting one once you’ve honed your skills with a view to see just how fast you can make it to the end is on another level. And trying to complete a level under challenge conditions such as conserving your rocket energy or not killing any enemies adds another dimension that only furth...
Three years ago, Double Eleven released a gorgeous platform game called Cloudbuilt, a game which incentives creative play with its unique level design. Now, main character Demi is back in a remaster called Super Cloudbuilt, a remaster that proves to be even better than the original release thanks to a variety of enhancements.
The fast-paced platforming game is back, this time on consoles! Read our Super Cloudbuilt PS4 review to see if the transition went smoothly.
Super Cloudbuilt's fast paced platforming is the exact kind of thing that will draw in a dedicated speedrunning and leaderboard chasing crowd. For a casual fan who wants a challenge, it can also be a fun platformer, but I just wish it rewrote the nonsensical story and cut out the hub world.
At the end of the day, Super Cloudbuilt is a well-designed and challenging game that just needs some minor tweaking to be a major player. The story is just uninteresting and the rewards for completing the levels of the game are lousy. There is definitely enough here – 4 branches of 9 or so levels, plus a hoard of challenges – to keep a parkour person happy... just don't look for a higher meaning.
Super Cloudbuilt has complex platforming mechanics that work well with its grandiose level design. Though the game does not always play nice with controllers, those who take the time to learn Demi's moves will enjoy their search for the perfect run.
We want to emphasize that 5 will always be the “average” number, not 7. So by far, it’s 50% great and it’s also 50% bad.
