Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

When Super Mario Bros. Wonder arrived in 2023, I called it the "most creative 2D entry in nearly 30 years." Even now, two and a half years later, I still relish the creativity at play, as well as the thoughtfulness the developers clearly put into the game when designing not only the stages and boss fights, but the game-defining Wonder Effects. To this day, it's my favorite 2D Mario game since Super Mario World in 1991. That said, I had my reservations coming into Wonder's Nintendo Switch 2 Ed...

Super Mario Bros. Wonder was a real return to form for 2D Mario, following the fun but increasingly underwhelming series of New Super Mario Bros. games across multiple consoles. Our original review praised the wealth of new ideas and imaginative level design but lamented the somewhat restricted multiplayer aspects. Well, Nintendo must have read that review and with SMBW–NSW2E+MIBP (a title that is too much of a mouthful even for Yoshi) there is a clear focus on added multiplayer antics. From an expanded way to play with friends in campaign mode to an entire party game area, this update is all ...

I have a special game for you today because Super Mario Bros Wonder - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park is just superb.

Whether the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder makes sense depends on whether you've played this game before or if it's your first time. Bellabel Park has plenty of activities to do, but a good chunk is walled off by the multiplayer functionality. Thus, the Switch 1 portion of the game is left practically unchanged. For better or worse, this is still a solid title that carries a charming experience that will draw both newcomers and veterans to the franchise.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is arguably the finest Nintendo platformer ever, for the way that it managed to perfectly capture Nintendo’s entire philosophy towards platformers. This review might sound flat on the game, but that’s only because the “DLC” that’s been added to the Switch 2 upgrade is difficult to be quite so enthusiastic about. Still, if this is your first time with Super Mario Bros. Wonder, it’s adding more to an already brilliant package, and if you already have the game, the “DLC” is only $20, which is more than reasonable as an excuse to dust it off for another whi…

Super Mario Bros. Wonder - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meet Me at Bellabel Park surprises not only with the number of characters in the title, but also with being the most content-packed expansion of this type in a long time.

When we reviewed Super Mario Bros. Wonder on the OG Nintendo Switch in Nov-2023, we called it a return to “gaming renaissance” that not only paid homage to

Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park is the definitive way to play the greatest 2D Mario game in a generation. With revamped visuals, entertaining new boss battles, and an Assist Mode for younger players, there’s a lot to love here. The new multiplayer minigames are, admittedly, a bit hit-and-miss, and some single-player content, like decorating Bellabel Park, may not entice owners of the Switch original to upgrade. But still, this is a strong overall package, and a must-buy for those who have never played Super Mario Bros. Wonder before.

The new standard for Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.

Mario Wonder was excellent. So I’m always open to more playtime in that world. But I’m not as excited about multiplayer content. So this colorful carnival of party games isn’t for me. But I see the vision. The games themselves are all fun, and the conceit itself is crammed with collectibles to hoover up. I just wish the single-player section had more than a handful of boss stages. It’s great that there are seven of them, but the pattern gets pretty familiar by the end. But if you’ve been itching to take your Mario Wonder skills on the road, then this is almost perfect. We’re still wandering th...

It's honestly tough scoring Super Mario Bros. Wonder + Meetup in Bellabel Park. The base game, Mario Wonder, is still excellent, but it's a three-year-old title at this point. You can also pick up the Nintendo Switch version for cheaper and not feel like you're missing out on any content. Despite my issues with Bellabel Park, it doesn't make Mario Wonder a bad game. If anything, it just makes the newest version one worth picking up only if you're looking to play with your kids or younger siblings. They'll undoubtedly love what's in store for them. If you're like me, though, and were hoping for...
