The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor is a solid new Chapter in the Elder Scrolls saga, despite hewing too closely to tradition at times. The main story may be a bit of a bust, but the variety of excellent side-stories on offer proves The Elder Scrolls Online is one of the best story-oriented MMOs on the market.

The fourth official expansion pack to the six-year-old MMO hardly does justice to the source material that it's based on, but it still manages to conjure up a decent adventure of its own.

Heading down a Dwemer lift into Blackreach for the first time was a sight to behold. The grey, stormy sky of Skyrim gave way to the dimly-lit black of Blackreach, mushrooms and flora glowing to give the region an ethereal light. I was met with an overlook on Castle Greymoor – a towering structure set in the northern regions of Blackreach and an important point of interest for the whole of The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor.

If you love gorgeous, nostalgic landscapes above all else, The Elder Scrolls Online's new Greymoor expansion offers a strongly nostalgic return to the northwestern corner of Skyrim. The formulaic story isn't as compelling, but it's at least buoyed by a couple of standout characters. The rest of Greymoor is largely a variation on the familiar ESO formula, although a new "Antiquities" system introduces a welcome new way to earn cash, gear, and cosmetic items.
