The Tale of Bistun is the debut title from Black Cube Games; an epic action adventure about love, sacrifice and salvation. The game is based on a 12th-century
Alongside simplistic combat, The Tale of Bistun tells a compelling story that offers a glimpse into Persian mythology and doesn’t overstay its welcome. It keeps your attention with smooth traversal through charming landscapes backed by a solid narration.
Rounding things off, The Tale of Bistun left me feeling very impressed. Sure, there are bigger and better games out there and the gameplay mechanics are limited and slightly repetitive but for the price, this game is well worth checking out. This is a classic tale that is worth hearing and is presented in a way that does not outstay its welcome. It is rare for a piece of Persian culture to be celebrated using the medium of video games and this is a piece of work that Black Cube Games should be proud of.
The Tale Of Bistun is a story-driven, action-adventure game inspired by the famous Persian tragic romance, "Khosrow and Shirin."
When it comes to videogame narratives, deep dives into mythology aren’t rare. They are, however, rarely done coherently or well. Case in point: Achilles: Legends Untold, a game loosely inspired by Greek heroes and myths. It mixes and matches familiar characters almost without regard to the source material. At the other end of the spectrum is The Tale of Bistun. From the narration to the iconography, this game pays consistent respect to the details of its mythic inspiration.
While starting strong, The Tale of Bistun loses interest over time, leaving the story, gameplay, and characters to try and make something out of stretched-thin mechanics.
