The UnderGarden is a casual zen-like game that challenges players to explore beautiful underground caverns filled with strange life forms, physics based puzzles and plenty of hidden secrets. The world comes alive and music evolves as players get deeper into the world of The UnderGarden.
Intentional or not the game is still relatively zen: calming, unchallenging but not particularly self-reflective.
The Undergarden really is best used as a palette cleanser, a game to break up the monotony of blood and violence gamers seem to revel in. Like so many sweet and wonderful things in life, the experience starts to lose its charm in any prolonged session. The levels are just a little too repetitive, and even the dazzling colors and quirky music failed to hold my attention for longer than a stage or two at any given time. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just that so much of Undergarden’s appeal lies in the sensory experience, and that affected me less and less as I habituated to it. It ce...
The UnderGarden delivers a unique world, that offers a beautiful environment, and a fitting soundtrack that sets the mood for each level. Customizing the appearance of the mysterious characters quite enjoyable, and searching for the collectibles can pump more time into this title. But frustrating controls, that lead to unnecessary accidents, can quickly pull the player out of the zen like state mind the game tries to set up.
But for the majority of gamers above the age of twelve, it will probably fail to engage after the first five minutes or so. Though it’s competently made and packs in a good amount of content overall The UnderGarden makes for a fairly dull experience.
