When the first Toy Story movie came out, it completely changed the way we look at our animated films, as it was the first feature length movie completely made using computer-generated 3D animation. When the first Toy Story game came out, it didn't really change anything, delivering an uninspired platformer with the pseudo-3D character models already made popular by games like Donkey Kong Country and Clockwork Knight.

Of course, if you’re a killjoy and break down all those constituent parts of Toy Story 3, they don’t really add up to anything that breaks any particular mould in terms of children’s entertainment or gaming in general. Everything is competently implemented without excelling in any individual direction, but the combination and sheer variety of content and fan service has to be commended, and for once it’s nice to play through a kids game that doesn’t just shoehorn the cinematic actio...

Toy Story is a franchise that needs no real introduction, as the films have delighted kids for years now and even kept grumbling adults quiet too – it's that rare breed of animation that can appease both. With a mix of charm, humour and ridiculousness on offer, it seems obvious that a strong game should have been in the offing and yet it has never really emerged, so naturally with Toy Story 3 and current generation technology, we hope for the best, but honestly, we expect the usual cash-in....
