Undead Darlings: No Cure for Love Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
If you love first-person grid-based dungeon crawlers as much as I do then Undead Darlings is a quirky new game that you need to play.
Undead Darlings ~ no cure for love ~’s story outshines its dungeon crawling but this unpolished gem of a visual novel RPG proves to be well worth delving into.
A fun dungeon romp with some fun characters that hold it all together. Average exploration and combat that doesn’t try anything unique but all in all a good time can be had here.
There are little issues that mean that Undead Darlings wears its “indie” spirit on its sleeve. Voice acting is uneven, with different actors sounding like they recorded the lines at different volumes and using different equipment, with no effort to equalise the sound. The characters are attractive and charming but some of the key art lacks for energy, detail, or really in highlighting any particular scene of note. However, all of that is more than forgivable. Undead Darlings comes across as a work of passion and creative energy, and I rarely see a game as inherently enthusiastic as that on…
There's some fun to be had in the dungeon crawling and battling an inventive array of enemies, but for the romance side of the game to be simultaneously funny, you have to be able to take the characters seriously, which unfortunately, I just couldn’t. The reliance on stereotypes and tongue-in-cheek narration turned this game into a comedy, but considering it as a romance game really lowers the quality of the entire game.
A squad of undead anime girls band together to find a cure to a deadly virus. Is Undead Darlings: ~no cure for love~ worth the risk of infection?
