We Love Katamari ReRoll + Royal Reverie brings the offbeat and inventive Katamari DamacyY franchise back to current and new-gen platforms, where players can experience a faithful yet updated version of the original game.
The gameplay is still as stressful and downright fun as it was years ago, but the visual upgrades make for an overall better experience. That said, it is a niche game. It’s not for everyone, and that’s perfectly fine. It’s found its own cult following, it knows what it wants to be, and it’s perfect at being a wonderfully weird experience.
We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie is an absolute blast to play. Its gameplay is addictive, the story is hilarious, and the soundtrack features music that will end up haunting you for days.
The Katamari games are so stupid. They are so dumb. They are so pointless. And that’s why I love them. Those are games which would never be greenlit by a major publisher like Bandai Namco nowadays if they were original ideas. It’s such a hard sell: a game where you control a sticky ball with bizarre controls, with the objective of rolling over smaller, low-poly objects, with the objective of creating the biggest ball possible under a time limit, all while a fabulous, Esperanto-speaking mo...
We Love Katamari and it’s easy to see why; the simple act of rolling up everything you find into a ball that starts as a tiny spec on the living room rug is
It's been a while but we finally have a remake of the classic sequel with We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie and it's great fun.
We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie is a remaster of We Love Katamari, originally released for the PS2 in 2005. That PS2 version is the sequel to Katamari Damacy, which also received a remaster in the form of Katamari Damacy Reroll, in 2018. Fans of the series have been clamoring for a remaster of We Love Katamari, because it’s the only Katamari sequel that was directed by series creator Keita Takahashi. It also improved upon the original in several ways, adding multiplayer and a variety of level goals. If you’re a fan of We Love Katamari, know that We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie is a fantastic remaster. If you’re new to the series, then read on.
We Love Katamari REROLL is a great remaster to a wonderfully entry into the series and it runs incredibly well on the Steam Deck!
Really, the minimum expectation for me when it comes to remakes is to make a good game better than it used to be. I feel confident in saying that We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie does enough to fulfill that requirement, and is priced in a way that makes it a no-brainer to pick up. It’s the best version of this game to date, and it gives me hope that seeing these being brought to modern platforms may be the spark that gives us brand-new titles. But for now, I’m fine with getting a we...
Oh Katamari, what a vibrant collection of randomness you are. From a funky soundtrack to colorfully-vibrant aesthetics and even its irreverent humor, it’s a game that’s never boring with all the objectives and secrets it offers. We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie is a great remaster of its original title, while still bringing something new to the game. Fresh secrets and collectibles entice players to roll around over and over for completion. Updated sound and visuals keep Katamari as vibrant as ever, while also looking better than ever. Newly-implemented UI elements that help you navigate the world create an ease of access for play. It’s now a nice assistance to see objective indicators appear when time is running low instead of having to waste precious seconds searching the map. These changes in addition to the Royal Reverie training missions elevates the title to be more than just a repeat of Katamari Damacy. While limited options in multiplayer and eternal modes hinder the variety, it doesn’t make Katamari any less addicting in its chaotic absurdity.
The last great Katamari game and in terms of everything but the soundtrack the better game of the two, even if the novelty barely stretches across two titles.
We love Katamari, and you should too. Like Katamari Damacy Reroll before it, We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie is a damn fine remaster, brimming with colour and verve. If it's a pure shot of fun you crave, then you can't really do much better than this.
It’s not the same as getting a brand new game, but when it comes to Katamari, we’ll take whatever we can get. We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie is just as delightful as the original, and it’s clear a lot of work has been done to make this 18-year-old game look just as good as ever. Some of its more random levels aren’t quite as enjoyable as they should be, but as a full package, this is Katamari at its best.
If you’ve ever played We Love Katamari or any version of the original Katamari Damacy, then you already know what you’ll be getting into with We Love Katamari Reroll. It’s an incremental improvement at best—both as a sequel to Katamari Damacy and as a port of We Love Katamari—but if that’s all you’re looking for then the end result will certainly be satisfying. Katamari is already such an unusual game that maybe its sequel doesn’t need to be particularly groundbreaking, and since it’s so rare for any Katamari game to be released at all it’s absolutely a good place to start…
We Love Katamari REROLL + Reverie is a remastered version of the original game that offers enhanced visuals, improved performance, and new content, providing a unique and enjoyable gaming experience with its innovative control scheme and engaging challenges.
While it may be something many would not consider a significant change, there is also a new selfie mode introduced in We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie. This allows players to snap a picture of their customized Prince hard at work. Though unnecessary for actual gameplay, it is a nice aesthetic feature that brings a little more personality to the game. Finally, one of the optional new additions to the latest Katamari remake is the DLC content, a Katamari Damacy Series Music Bundle. This DLC will add 25 new classic soundtracks that can be played while completing the various levels and give players the Little King costume. Though this is a nice feature, neither of these aspects seems that imperative as We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie already contains great music and plenty of customizable options for the Prince that are unlocked through progressing through the story.
