Dragonflight feels like one of the best things to happen for World of Warcraft in sometime. Its reworks of base systems are fun and enjoyable, but its new content really stands out as impressive. Players will find exploring on their faithful companion, whether on the ground or in the sky, is quite the fun time, and the Dragon Isles themselves are well worth the journey. It may feel like jumping in the deep end here for newbies, but top to bottom, Dragonflight still feels like a great reason to play WoW.

It’s been three weeks since Dragonflight, the newest expansion for World of Warcraft launched; with the first Season of content and raiding well underway, it is time to finally put a number to this expansion. Of course, all of this is just how things have gone so far, and a lot remains to be seen with where the story will go from here and, most importantly, the pacing of new content moving forward. So, without further ado, let’s jump right in.

As was the case with Legion taking us out of the dour mood of Warlords of Draenor, WoW has risen from the ashes once again. The theme park roteness has eroded in the era of Dragonflight, and it came at the perfect time: at one of World of Warcraft‘s lowest points following the mid-to-late Shadowlands period. While there’s a chance that this expansion could drop the ball, so far it’s looking good. I’m still having fun flying around by myself, while interacting with the MMO bits as I see fit.

I was one of those who found both Outland and Pandaria to be pretty exciting and entertaining, and I feel the same way about Dragonflight. The way the story is delivered, often through side characters, makes the game world feel much more grounded and believable - An actual place you want to explore and inhabit instead of a random collection of quests and activities. It's a major step in the right direction, and while I still have to get used to many of the changes, I already feel right at home in the world of Dragonflight.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is a promising new foundation for a very old MMO.
