Before playing I didn’t expect to be fully enraptured by Transistor, thinking the spectre of Bastion would haunt the experience too much. But neither did I expect Transistor to take that formula and evolve it into something so sublime and handcrafted that tears would roll down my cheek as the credits rolled. From its combat mechanics and customisation, to the narrative and the visually orgasmic art-style, this is an experience to be savoured, to lock yourself away in the confines of your ga...
But it’s so damn short. Red’s epic lasts just a few hours. New Game + promises to carry over my progress and beef up the Process accordingly, and the Sandbox still hides challenges, so there’s replayability here. Still, I want more time with Red and her endearing sword. Transistor is too good to end so soon.
Transistor is one of my favorite games of the past year, easy. Without being weird and unrecognizable as a video game, Transistor turns many video game tropes on their heads—subtley. It also features an excellently written and likable narrator, a fully realized and meaningfully motivated female protagonist, a twist on the tired old tech tree of yore, a soundtrack that's integral to the storytelling fabric of the game, and a complex enemy composed of cowards, contemporaries, and anything-but-bloodthirsty rivals. There's not a note, pixel, or line of dialog out of place.

Transistor is a sci-fi themed action RPG that invites you to wield an extraordinary weapon of unknown origin as you fight through a futuristic city.
The iOS version of Transistor brought me joy equivalent to a summer blockbuster film. The graphics are stylish, the sound is gorgeous, the gameplay is fun, and the story is cinematic. Some players may find the game too short or skewed easy, but those are not problems to me. I’d rather have a short, intense game to an artificially padded one, and Transistor has limiters throughout the game that can be activated for a better challenge. I think a lot of the complaints lobbied against Transistor are purely matters of taste, because the game really doesn’t do anything wrong. I enjoyed having th…
While there doesn't seem to be anything new to draw players in, Transistor has always had a goal of replayability to begin with. Owning it on a Switch lets you play it both at home and on the go, rather than needing two versions of the game to do so. Performance was great on both, and I spent a large amount of time playing through without even realizing it. The game also does not have a Switch markup as many others do, so this is definitely worth a pick up if you haven't already got yourse...
Supergiant's vision this time around is less clear - but in this case, that seems to be a sign that the studio has increased its ambition, and is indeed pursuing a story that is more confident in its abstract and ethereal story. In a way, it's as if the poignancy of Bastion's last hour has been spread evenly across Transistor from beginning to end.
While the combat system itself is the real star of Transistor, Red's journey through Cloudbank is definitely one worth taking.
With Transistor, Supergiant Games created a beautiful, unique and enjoyable world. Unfortunately, the game is so focused that you're not offered the opportunity to really explore or experience this world. I can't help but feel Cloudbank has more mysteries to experience and villains to combat, and that Transistor was only the beginning of something larger than this single game.
