Star Wars Outlaws is a game of mixed experiences, where almost every good element is dragged down by a disappointing or restrictive other. Its narrative and main character are largely engaging and combat tools intriguing, but the surrounding elements expose the lack of depth in nearly every element.
Shadow of the Erdtree is a staggering achievement, and among the best work that FromSoftware has produced. It expands upon Elden Ring with an intricately woven narrative, unrelenting boss challenges, and a world so full of secrets that it's hard to know whether you've truly seen everything the expansion has to offer.
Vengeance is undoubtedly the definitive and best way to play Shin Megami Tensei V, with a fantastic new narrative path and quality-of-life adjustments that are so good you wonder how the game was released without them.
Manor Lords offers a fantastic foundation for the game to grow in early access, while also being a brilliant game in its own right already. It approaches the complexities of city building in a medieval context with ease, giving players many challenges to face as they build up their settlements from just a tent to cities that sprawl across regions.
There is no doubt that the vision Rabbit & Bear Studios had behind Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes yearns for JRPG classics - with Suikoden at the heart (and history) of many of the team. This has many benefits, with a world fit for a grand adventure, and a combat system beaming with countless intricacies, but with that anachronism comes some roadblocks too.
Despite my reservations about the late game, Dragon's Dogma 2 remains an exceptional experience on almost all fronts and an adventure that you unequivocally won't want to miss.
While Granblue Fantasy: Relink does boast excellent combat with true variance between its many characters, the predictable narrative robs it of any motivation while removing the sense of adventure from the game.
