Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All!

Romans, pirates and boars beware! The famous Gauls Asterix and Obelix are coming back for a brand new adventure! For as much as I liked playing Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 on the Switch a few years ago, that was still a remaster of an older and quite janky game. Asterix and Obelix: Slap Them All! is a game I would play with my younger siblings. It is a simplistic brawler that becomes repetitive after going through a few acts, but has great visuals and shows the surprising amount of charm such an old series carries today. Slap Them All is by no means perfect. It’s shallow, even by genre standards, lacks the all-but mandatory four-player option, has been balanced for two players to the point that it doesn’t really work as a single-player game, and fails to give players any reason to give it a second go once powered through. And yet at the same time, it is the best use of the beloved Asterix & Obelix property that we have seen in years and for us long-suffering Asterix & Obelix fans, for that reason alone Slap Them All is a gift.
