But the true, ideal bee sim remains out of sight. A full-on "be a bee" game is honestly one of my dream games (see also spiders, wasps, and ground bees, possibly all in the same impossible game), and I'm sure I'm not alone. The appeal of being a humble, vulnerable bee going about their business in a more detailed, freeform way seems obvious. Bee Simulator has its upsides, but this just isn't the one. My bee t-shirt, and I, are still waiting.
Bee Simulator is a surprisingly thoughtful game with bags of charm to spare, a wonderful soundtrack and a reasonably detailed world to explore. However, the experience is seriously soured by the sensitive controls, along with the punishing – and very frustrating – racing segments. A few visual and technical problems crop up as well, which – when added to the game's brevity and distinct lack of content (especially for this asking price) – all conspire to make Bee Simulator a much less successful undertaking that it could have been.
While I definitely appreciate the hard work that went into making this game, and the cute, fun graphics, this just isn’t something I can see myself picking up again and playing, though I do believe this could be a fun game for young children to play together. I think I was expecting more, maybe even looking for the choice to pick which job in the hive to play, and hope that the developers might consider adding more to the game in the future!
I would have loved to bee a little bee just so I’d bee able to bee at the meeting where the publisher greenlit a project like Bee Simulator. Can you imagine the elevator pitch? “Well yes gentlemen, we want to make a game in which you can control and honeybee and partake on all the exciting activities of its six-week lifespan, with voice acting”. I can’t deny the fact that this is a truly unique concept for a videogame, but it’s time to find out if this game is worth all the buzz.
As technology and visual graphics improve, the popularity of simulation games such as Bee Simulator grows. The number of simulation games increases exponentially bringing different realities to the forefront of the human experience. Bee Simulator contributes to this front wonderfully, introducing an interactive experience which makes learning about and experiencing the life of a Bee a great deal of fun.
Calling it a simulator is a stretch, but this relaxed and friendly adventure does a great job at showcasing just how great bees are
