Rounding things off I think it is fair to say that Deliver Us Mars is a frustrating experience and somewhat of a let-down compared to Deliver Us The Moon. While the environmental art style, musical score, platforming and accessibility settings are of a high standard, far too many aspects of the game are poor. This becomes even worse when you consider that this is the glitchiest game I have ever played on my Xbox Series X.

I am pleased to say that Deliver Us Mars was very enjoyable, taking what feels like just the right amount of time to complete the story. I am hopeful that if there is a third entry in the series, it will overcome the technical limitations seen in the first two.

When it was released back in 2019, Deliver Us The Moon was a surprising hit, with a stunning lunar locations to explore and a compelling narrative to uncover. Deliver Us Mars is the long-awaited successor, that promises to tell a much bigger story with a larger cast and take the game to the red planet that lives rent-free in the heads of any science enthusiast.

Deliver Us Mars is a small studio's notable attempt at bringing something new to their fledgling franchise. Yet the attempt falls short as it feels the title takes one small step, and one giant leap, backwards in its development. It's commendable for KeokeN Interactive to aim high and want to deliver something more robust than a walking simulator, but the overall game feels unpolished. A fantastic, emotionally-charged story and gorgeous landscape visuals aren't enough to keep this title in orbit. Any action within the game feels stiff and tedious. It's a title that doesn't give players much direction in some...

Deliver Us The Moon is one of the few indie games released in the past few years whose popularity only increased over time. When the game was released in 2018, it did so in a somewhat incomplete state with an abrupt ending that soured the entire experience. Developer KeokeN Interactive eventually gave the story a proper ending with a free DLC, thus making their game one worth playing for all those who love solid narrative-driven games and space settings. Almost five years since the game's release, the Dutch developer has finally released its highly anticipated sequel, Deliver Us Mars, which...

Deliver Us Mars is decent enough but lacks the focus and narrative strengths that made the last game such a joy.
Read Full ReviewSci-fi media says space is dangerous because it’s filled with evil galactic empires and advanced alien lifeforms out to kill you. In reality, the physical act of space exploration is already pretty perilous. That’s something narrative-driven adventure Deliver Us Mars gets across, with plenty of peril and conflict but no combat.

Once the source of wild speculation, our neighbor planet Mars is now a pretty familiar place. We’ve all seen the pictures, thanks to the amazing Mars landers and rovers. It looks eerily like our own southwest, it has weather and seasons and if you’re Matt Damon you can grow potatoes there. Mars might be giving up at least some of its secrets, but there are still plenty of mysteries to uncover. That’s the premise of Deliver Us Mars. Does it manage a successful touchdown or land with a thud on the Red Planet?

Deliver Us Mars offers a refreshing sci-fi adventure with an entertaining and emotional story at the forefront. It ups the scale from its predecessor and manages to reach for the stars relatively unscathed.

Deliver Us Mars takes place ten years after the events of Deliver Us the Moon and this time, as the game's title suggests, you'll be journeying to our neighbouring planet. You play as a young astronaut, Kathy Johanson, who is part of a team tasked with travelling to Mars to retrieve some vital technology in the hopes of saving the dying Earth.

Deliver Us Mars is another engaging science fiction tale with something to say about our modern world. This message is wrapped in a more personal story this time around, that’s bolder in how it tells it, and mixes it well with broader action and puzzling, so it’s just a shame that the game can’t match that ambition with some technical weaknesses even on the latest consoles.

Deliver Us Mars is that rare, beautiful thing: a successful sequel which not only builds on its predecessor but enhances the experience in numerous ways. Sure, more puzzle variety would have been nice. But that’s about the only complaint we can make about this otherwise thrilling, atmospheric deep-space adventure.
