Divinity: Original Sin 2 launched on PC last year to a whole lot of accolades and critical acclaim. Almost a year later, the Definitive Edition of the isometric RPG gives console players the chance – nay, the freaking gift – of experiencing this gob-smackingly impressive game for themselves.
Original Sin 2 shakes your hand a little too hard when you first meet. It needs to relax until you get to know it better. It's endlessly surprising, with characters that lose their stiffness over time, in dialogues and battle logs that piece together a dangerous, thoughtful world. It's tough. But the reward is that you get tougher, too. It still needs to clean up some of its tactical sloppiness, though. Having a ton of options in battle is only good if its rules are fair and make sense.
I was surprised at how meticulously crafted the visuals of Original Sin 2 are, as I often had the camera zoomed out. Upon taking a closer look, I found the environments and character to be remarkably detailed. The gorgeous soundtrack rounds the package out wonderfully, while the expertly-performed voicework can either be suitably dramatic, or wonderfully goofy.
