Finally being able to retire my old copy of NCAA Football 14 for Xbox 360, I was so happy to find that EA Sports College Football 25 was all I wanted and more in its return. There is still room to improve in some areas like with the bugs or additional game modes in the future, but this is a fantastic jumping back on point for the franchise after more than 10 years. After a decade-long hiatus, EA Sports’ take on college football is back, baby. Naturally, I kept my expectations in check and headed into College Football 25 with deep reservations. How could I not? I won’t pretend EA Sports hasn’t had an abysmal reputation when it comes to their football games over the last ten years. Thankfully, my worries were quickly put to rest. College Football 25 is excellent, delivering an atmospheric, fast-paced take on football that does what Madden hasn’t done in a long time.

EA Sports College Football 25 makes up for some wonky menus and a lack of tentpole modes by bringing the good stuff where it matters. The gridiron action here is fast and snappy, offense feels fantastically responsive, and defensive plays are easier to read and consider thanks to a combination of clear layouts and more time and space on the ball. It looks great, sounds great, plays great and has thusly become our (American) football game of choice going forward. Madden 25, it's over to you.

While EA Sports College Football 25 is likely to prove an enigma for anyone outside of America, the PS5 game is already well on its way to becoming one of 2024’s best-sellers in the USA. Its release ends a decade-long wait for a new licensed NCAA title, after a protracted legal dispute pertaining to the likenesses of players slammed the series in an ice bath. But with all of the paperwork filed and an extended development cycle behind it, does this long-awaited outing deliver – or drop the ball?

College Football 25 is exactly the return to the series that fans will have wanted. The gameplay is solid, and sets itself apart from Madden in a way that rewards dedicated players, and the Dynasty mode will alone will keep you engaged endlessly. A lack of depth in the other modes and some fiddly UI pull the experience down a bit, but never by enough to hinder what the game does best.

Even with the immense weight of its own legacy on its shoulders, EA Sports College Football 25 delivers on every single one of its promises - and then some. While EA couldn't help but underhand returning fans of the series with Ultimate Team, they provide more than enough alternatives for those who wish to leave the mode on the bench.

EA Sports College Football 25 finally breaks the mold we've seen year after year in football games. It offers a deep and immersive experience with top-notch simulation features. And even if some details need to be ironed out, you'll have a blast in any of its game modes, whether you're a fan of the sport or not.

EA Sports College Football 25 succeeds at setting itself apart from Madden with new mechanics and systems that change the way you play the game. Wear & Tear forces a new kind of strategy, and the changes to passing and player movement open the door for unforgettable plays. There are some cracks in the presentation, the game needs more songs, and Dynasty could use a tad more polish, but College Football 25 has delivered a level of fun that I haven’t gotten from a football sim in years.

EA Sports College Football 2025 is the return of college football that sports gaming fans have been waiting for. There's enough here to keep the avid and dedicated fans around for a good while, with Dynasty Mode and Road to Glory taking center stage. Control over dynasty players, playing defense, and not fully showing what controls are bring down the experience quite a bit, especially in the beginning hours. EA Sports College Football 25 is not for everyone, but fans will get enough out of it to keep the franchise coming back around each year, hopefully with improvements.

EA Sports College Football 25 is an imperfect comeback of sorts, but still offers engaging gameplay while capturing high stakes and raw emotion of the sport.

Only time will tell, but overall, College Football 25 is more fun than I’ve had in years in any Madden title, which is surely a victory in itself.
