Everspace: Stellar Edition manages to fit the vastness of space into the small and portable Nintendo Switch. The devs had the framework of the well-received "bigger" versions of the game but how much did they have to compromise to make it work on the Switch? Find out in the review below.

While reminding us just how much we’d love to see FTL on Switch, Everspace manages to carve out an impressive identity for itself. With gratifying space combat, an addictive ‘rogue-lite’ core loop and even some light, entertaining writing along the way, it performs admirably – if not flawlessly – on Nintendo’s console. Overall, we had a hell of a time with it and this port does a cracking job of preserving the full experience on a handheld. If any of this sounds remotely enticing, we’d heartily recommend investigation.

If you can get past Everspace's few flaws, a game that merges the best parts of roguelikes and space shooters exposes itself. It’s an old story, but one that Everspace has added just enough minor tweaks too...

An enjoyable roguelike space shooter, Everspace's odd design decisions and inconsistent level of polish sadly prevent it from realising its full potential.

Everspace is one of the best space combat games on the market today.  It's fun, beautiful, and a blast to play.

Everspace ticks the boxes it needs in order to be a good roguelike, at least in terms of gameplay. The 6DoF control scheme gives unprecedented freedom to combat in the subgenre. Weapons feel satisfying to use and its permanent progression makes it so that you don’t feel your time is wasted. That being said, it misses the mark with its completely forgettable story and relatively unfulfilling exploration. At the end of the day, if your focus is on pure gameplay rather than story or worldbuilding, Everspace is a good choice as far as roguelikes go.
