F1 2016 Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

F1 2016 is an exceptional game. While there are a few minuscule issues with A.I, these happened so sparingly that they had little to no effect on how much I was enjoying the game. The career mode is the shining star of the whole package; it’s so good it’s hard to think what they could add to it for the next game. It’s taking a few years, but Codemasters have finally got it very nearly perfect. Formula One 2016 is one of the best racing games I have ever played, and it’s certainly the best F1 game I’ve played since Codemasters took over six years ago.

F1 nerds and racing fans, get ready for the best F1 game ever conceived.

F1 2016 is definitively the best Formula One game Codemasters has ever crafted. Deep and nuanced, stuffed with fan service, and as demanding as you’d like it to be, this is worthy fare for the motorsport obsessed while remaining accessible for the merely curious, and absolutely worth the upgrade from previous years. If F1 2016 and last year’s Dirt Rally are indicative of the level of quality we’re going to get from Codemasters going forward I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Authentic and engaging enough for the motorsport diehard, and yet fun and accessible enough for the casual racing game fan, F1 2016 is one of the best recreations of a sport in a video game that I have yet seen- and is an easy recommendation for all racing game fans.

Unlike real Formula One, Codemasters listened to the fans - and as a result have produced one of the finest F1 games in their history.

F1 2016 offers the most comprehensive representation of the sport we’ve ever seen. Codemasters have implemented an array of features that are pure wish-fulfilment for fans, and cover the whole gamut of the F1 experience from paddock to track. There are still some key presentational improvements that need to be made, and perhaps next year’s entry will be a visual powerhouse, but for this season, beyond becoming an actual driver, there is no way to get closer to the world of F1 than Codemasters’ latest.

The current generation of cars are slower and quieter than those Lewis Hamilton drove to his first world title in 2008. Even Bernie Ecclestone says watching a grands prix today is like turning up at a Rolling Stone concert and finding Mick Jagger has lost his voice.

Modes are important to a serialized racing title like F1. The racing itself is certainly the foundation, but the modes give the games a larger context. Recently, however, they haven't been good for F1. Whether underserved or absent altogether, the only thing carrying the franchise has been nothing but a set of four tires. But having modes is only the first step; building them is another. Going from zero-to-sixty and beyond in a hurry, F1 2016 not only brings back its career mode, but builds it out in impressive fashion.
