Gears of War 2 Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

If you haven’t figured it out by now, Gears of War 2 is what’s going to sell Xbox 360s this holiday season. It has non-stop action, fresh gameplay, varied environments, an engrossing storyline, multiplayer that will have people busy for years to come, and some of the nastiest and coolest kills I’ve seen in a videogame. It has its flaws when it comes to the technical side of multiplayer and the last act of the campaign and the voice acting might turn some off. I kept coming back until I finished it, then it made me look for Gears 3 – which I just did a few days ago and finished it yesterday in co-op mode with my girlfriend. If you’re deciding to pick up an Xbox One, and you haven’t played any Gears yet, then I suggest you grab this one and Gears 3 (except Gears 1 since there’s already an Ultimate Edition out on Xbox...

After the release and instant success of the original Gears of War, it quickly became apparent that Microsoft wanted to place it next to the Halo franchise as part of a one-two punch to sell as many 360s as they possibly could. Being labeled as a console-selling title puts a lot of pressure on that game to deliver the goods, and it's with that in mind that Cliff Bleszinski promised that Gears of War 2 would be "bigger, better, and more bad-ass" than the original, making it a must-have title f...
