Gran Turismo 6 Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

For me, it’s a racing world I can get lost in. Again, it’s less about racing and more about driving; it’s less about spectacle and more about substance. It’s the driving authenticity, superior car handling and physics, wide variety of cars and races, and reverence for all things automotive that have me hooked and will keep me coming back.

Gran Turismo 6 is the best in the series, but it's not perfect. It's as good as it gets in terms of racing games on the PlayStation 3; no game comes close in terms of car count, track variety, or handling physics, even if the vehicle sounds are still off.

“Gran Turismo 6 is a diagonal step for the series, improving some minor aspects but losing some of its predecessors’ charm in the process.”

While Gran Turismo may have pioneered the sim-racing on consoles, the genre has come along way since the original GT debuted on the *gasp* original PlayStation. Ever since its main competition Forza entered the fray the GT series has seemed, to me, to be a step behind especially with its lengthy delays for it to appear in full and proper form on the PS3. With the next-gen upon us, and games like Forza 5 available, scoring GT6 has its difficulties. Comparisons are inevitable despite the cross-generational gap. Despite the PS4’s excellent sales numbers there is still massive install base of PS3’...

Gran Turismo 6’s problems are baggage the series has been carrying since 1997; the second you thunk into a wall at 200 kilometres per hour and drive off scot-free, or hop into a belching V8 that sounds more like a wheezing milkshake maker, the glass shatters and the illusion breaks with it. But when you’re on one of Gran Turismo 6’s absolutely gorgeous tracks, fused with the car you’re controlling, attacking apexes with confidence and devouring sectors with steely precision, it’s not hard to see why this series is deservedly regarded as one of the best of its kind, and this one is no exception...

Gran Turismo 6 is the next in a legendary series. Excellent driving as always, but the console generation gap is evident.

Still, even amidst all of the game's standout qualities, there are places it could certainly improve, especially in with the way opponent A.I. reacts. Online multiplayer alleviates that issue, but this is a franchise built around the single player race, and we hope the PS4 will come in to make things even better. That being said, there is just so much content packed into this game that poor A.I. is tolerable, especially since the racing is so much fun even without opponents. Gran Turismo 6 is a fitting send-off to the PS3 and comes highly recommended.

Gran Turismo 6, at its simplest, takes the foundations of GT5 and improves upon them. Some areas have seen bigger shifts than others, with the AI and career difficulty the main sticking points for me. However, when there is so much content on offer, with a host of new cars and tracks, see major changes to the physics and graphics, and only promises more, it easily outweighs the existing flaws.
