I think my general experience with Hellpoint has been a pleasant one. The idea of having a Souls style game set in space is a pretty kickass one if you ask me, though the technical issues and the way levels are structured is what really holds Hellpoint back. There isn’t really much of anything new it does for the genre, outside of its setting, but it’s still a fun time killer, especially for Souls fan. I will say for those on PS4 you should perhaps wait until more performance patches are issued before attempting. Otherwise, I would say get the...

A derelict space station locked in orbit around a black hole is certainly a unique setting for an action RPG. Hellpoint sticks quite close to the familiar Souls-like gameplay formula while injecting just a bit of sci-fi horror.

Hellpoint is an interesting entry to the popular Souls-like genre and I think it is one worth playing. I wish it was more clear on the rules of the world and I’m not a fan of fast travel being restricted. Still, the black hole and rewarding exploration make Hellpoint a fun and rewarding game.

Hellpoint is absolutely a game to try out if you're a fan of the Souls-like genre and especially Bloodborne. Its stunning aesthetic alone should grab your interest. However, the game unfortunately falls short of being truly amazing due to several unpolished elements.

Hellpoint review for PS4, PC, Switch, and Xbox One. It feels like Souls-likes are going to overtake battle royales as the most played-out genre. The amount of frustrating, low-quality pretenders to the Dark Souls crown seems to grow by the day. That’s not to say there’s no innovation left for the action RPG sub-genre. After all, just because platforming had Mario doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have gotten Sonic. However, using that analogy, the recently released Souls-like Hellpoint would be more like Bubsy.

Hellpoint is a Souls-like open-world action RPG set in in a sci-fi world. The game is developed by Cradle Games and published by tinyBuild and comes with a single player mode, local and online co-op mode, and PvP mode. Originally funded through Kickstarter, the game developers were keen to pay homage to old-school Souls-like games with challenging and complex combat and gameplay.

Hellpoint is, mechanically, a typical game in the Dark Souls genre. However, the sci-fi theme is really what separates it from other games. Although the upgrade systems aren’t always intuitive and the game has a few other minor issues, the unique enemies and story make up for it. Hellpoint is a hard game but well worth the struggle.

Cradle Games has unleashed their Souls-like game set in space, Hellpoint. It's a bit rough around the edges, but split-screen co-op and unique flourishes mean you may still want to buy a ticket to this space station. Find out why in our Hellpoint review!

Not all games inspired by the infamous FromSoftware Souls series can pull through. Games like Remnant: From the Ashes and The Surge 2 have successfully managed to recapture the essence of the Souls-like genre, whilst having unique elements in order to stand out from the rest of the crowd. However, many others have failed. Hellpoint is the latest in the line of Souls-like games, but can it actually recapture the spirit?

It’s obvious that it’s a Dark Souls rip-off, but it’s a good rip-off. It’s fun to beat things down, and that certain style of combat is rewarding when you get the hang of it. But its flaws can make or break the game depending on personal perseverance. It can be confusing and its messaging system is less legible than Dark Souls, but it’s got that combat loop that makes Dark Souls (and Hellpoint) work. If you can forgive some unoriginality, you’ll have fun with Hellpoint, especially...

Hellpoint is an excellent take on the Souls-like formula that incorporates some fresh new ideas despite a few hiccups.

If Dark Souls were set in space, it would be Hellpoint, a strong souls-like marred only by its similarities to so many others in its genre.

It's refreshing to play a hardcore Soulslike that shies away from the high fantasy setting for something more futuristic. We've seen Deck13 tackle Sci-Fi with The Surge series before but it's rare to see this style of hardcore RPG venture out into outer space. Cradle Games, a small team based out of Quebec, has been working on Hellpoint for the past few years and its launch has finally arrived.

Hellpoint tries to incorporate familiar concepts you've seen from more popular action titles such as the Souls series. Unfortunately, it also adds various ideas that turn it into a jumbled mess. Combined with cryptic presentation of information, confusing level layouts, clunky combat, and abysmally bad platforming mechanics, it's one game that you'll say "Oh, hell no" to.

Hellpoint might have been a decent Souls clone if it didn't suffer from so many technical problems. A few more months in the oven would have done it wonders, but it is an easy skip in its current state.

Much of what Hellpoint lacks in original Souls-like gameplay mechanics it makes up for with its stylish sci-fi aesthetic, creepy atmosphere, and relentless focus on making you uncomfortable. The frequent bugs are a major hindrance, though, and it’s far too derivative to step out of the shadow of the genre greats that came before, but it does provide some decent, old-fashioned video game punishment with satisfyingly brutal combat.
