It has been a very long time since a game has been that compelling that I’ve lost track of time so much that I see the morning sun come through my window. I’m getting too old to manage that. Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era did that to me. Yes, it’s in Early Access and therefore feels like it’s limited compared to what the final game will be (though I’ve yet to have a crash or see a major bug), but the developers would have to do something catastrophic to ruin this, and I choose to have faith: This is going to be one of my favourite games of the decade.
The heroes of sword and sorcery are back in glory. The series has finally found developers who know what Heroes of Might and Magic is all about, and Early Access promises promising development.
ArcheAge is an attempt to go back to the source, trying to capture the core charm of the Heroes of Might and Magic series that players need most, and successfully took its first step in Early Access.
Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era is a superb entry into the series and brings the game back to what works. While the complex gameplay might not be for everyone, it offers a lot of freedom in how you go about making your playstyle for each scenario. The games are long, but there are also plenty of other modes to hone your skills, which is greatly appreciated. It's still in development, so there are a few kinks to work out, but whatever the future holds for Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era will undoubtedly be incredible.
Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era successfully evokes the peak of this classic series with a wealth of polished content right from the start of its early access period. Scott Nowbaveh reviews.
